Kolapore wilderness trails

Tuesday Jan 19 conditions

19 Jan 2016 10:16 AM | Anonymous

In spite of all the promises of flurries or squalls, Kolapore has only received a few cm of new snow since Sunday.  The snow gauge is at 20 cm (i.e., the unpacked depth). Trail conditions are essentially unchanged - the flatter and less rocky trails are pleasant, and the steeper, rockier and wetter trails should only be skied by Kolapore skiers who don't mind dodging rocks and puddles.

Good description. I went for a long ski today. The wind kept me from skiing the Northwest Passage except for a km in and out at its south end. Snow coverage is adequate, and kick and glide were good with blue wax. Hard wear on the tails of my old yellow Sundins. I did meet three friendly souls, one of whom was strangely fascinated by my wool pants, 3-pin bindings, and knee-high gaiters. She did rather aggressively thrust the tip of her pole against my binding, but I forgave her. Probably just youthful spontaneity.
