We are into spring skiing conditions - icy in the morning, turning mushy by about mid-day.  It will get even mushier over coming days with mild temperatures, and turn to ice on Wednesday with the cold temperatures.  I probably won't be doing any Kolapore skiing until we get new snow.  Kolapore Trail Guide

Over the past 36 hours Kolapore has received about 10 cm of snow.  It is sitting on a firm crust.  Skiing is probably OK (not great) on flatter trails.  Hills could quickly get scraped down to the icy crust.  Be prudent in your choice of trails!  As usual, the County Forest parking lot is well plowed.  Kolapore Trail Guide

Kolapore received several cm of snow over what is primarily crust, but in a few cases may be slush.  I don't think that skiing will be enjoyable until we get more new snow, because the old tracks will be icy ruts.  When we get a bit more snow, I will try the trails and post a report.  Kolapore Trail Guide

There is about 10 cm of new snow over an icy crust.  The skiing is quite good, although steeper hills could become very fast if there is much snowplowing.  The poling track is very crunchy because of the crust. There are a number of branches and possibly some trees down on the trails as a result of the strong winds on Monday and today.  Please help with the pickup.  If a project is too big, please send information to info@kolaporetrails.org  An accompanying photo can be helpful for bigger tasks.  Kolapore Trail Guide

Currently (8:30 AM) the trails are hard packed and icy.  The trails will not be safe or enjoyable at the moment.  Later today it may soften enough to be marginally skiable.  I would recommend deferring Kolapore skiing until after the substantial amount of new snow that is predicted for Friday. The snow keeps falling - 10 cm overnight.  The snow base is record setting.  Both the County Forest and main Kolapore parking lots are well plowed. Given the forecast for next week (+1 and possible mixed precipitation) get out ASAP and enjoy the great skiing.  Kolapore Trail Guide

Kolapore received yet another 15 cm of snow overnight.  The County Forest parking lot is well plowed.  The main Kolapore parking lot probably won't be plowed until later today.  It was well plowed yesterday, so it might be possible to get in if the snow piled up by the County plow hasn't created a heavy barrier.  There is a lot of snow on the trails - the most in recent memory.  Be prepared to break trail.  Kolapore Trail Guide

As of 11 AM, both Kolapore parking lots were well plowed and there is no obstruction at the entrance.  We received another 10 cm or so overnight. One skier had been in at both entrances at 11AM.  Skiing should be good if you don't mind breaking trail.  Snow depths are incredible - the Kolapore snow gauge was up to 36" (91 cm) yesterday.   In the several decades that we've had a snow gauge, I don't think I've ever seen it that high before.  Kolapore Trail Guide

Kolapore received about 20 cm of snow in the last 24 hours.  Once again, the issue will be parking.  The main Kolapore parking lot will likely be impassable for much of the day.  The County Forest parking lot is in excellent condition.   Of course, skiers who do make it to the trails will need to be prepared for trail breaking.   Kolapore  Trail Guide

It's hard to tell how much new snow we've had in the last 24 hours because of drifting, but I would estimate about 15 cm.   The County Forest parking lot was plowed at 10 AM today.  The main Kolapore parking lot probably won't be plowed until later today, if then.  You would be crazy to try to drive into it until after it is plowed.  The official Kolapore snow gauge is probably getting to record levels - it should reach 3/4 metre today.  (A local cross country ski area is reporting that they have received over 5 metres of snow this season.  We haven't received quite as much, but we are not far off.)  Kolapore Trail Guide
