Since mid-morning, Kolapore has been receiving serious snow squalls.  At 5:30 PM, the new snowfall today is getting close to 30 cm.  This will greatly improve skiing conditions, but don't think about coming out until the weather has settled down, and roads and parking lots have been cleared.  That could easily be mid-day Sunday or later.  One minor skiing consideration is that the new snow will have concealed some wet spots.  Skiing in the County Forest this morning, we had to be careful at wet spots just east of 5 and west of 4.  Kolapore Trail Guide

Last night and into this morning Kolapore received about 10 cm of snow.  I still expect that the snow cover on many Kolapore trails will be too thin to provide good skiing, but I am planning to explore the County Forest and vicinity on rock skis.  Let's hope that the snow squalls that are predicted for Saturday come to pass.  Kolapore Trail Guide

Yesterday morning I posted that Kolapore had received about 5 cm of wet snow overnight.  When I shovelled snow, it was closer to 10 cm.  Overnight we received about 4 cm of drier snow.  I still wouldn't recommend Kolapore skiing, given that we lost much of our base.  Hopefully some of the predicted snow squalls will hit us, although as I post this at 8 AM, most of the streamers are just to the east of us.  Kolapore Trail Guide

Kolapore has received about 5 cm of wet snow, and it is snowing energetically.  We will need a substantial amount of snow to make the trails skiable, because there were areas where the base was gone.   You would be crazy to try to ski on the trails at the moment, even on rock skis.    Kolapore Trail Guide

The mild temperatures and rain have substantially reduced the snow base, and there are lots of rocks showing through.  We need cold weather and a reasonable amount of new snow.  I will post again when conditions change.  In the interim, please don't walk on the ski trails - the footprints you leave will make a mess when it refreezes.  Kolapore Trail Guide

Skiing in the County Forest and west to the 10th Line this morning was very pleasant - good tracks and few rocks showing.  However, when I headed north from the County Forest I encountered more rocks and a lot of yellow snow (moisture in the ground was bleeding up to the track).   A diehard Kolapore skier reported that conditions at the north end (e.g., Kolapore Church) were poor.  So, be selective about where you ski.  If you want to snowshoe, the snowshoe loop just south of the County Forest parking lot was snowshoed this morning.  Kolapore Trail Guide

Kolapore received 10+ cm of snow over the past 24 hours.  I am hopeful that the snow will be enough to cover most of the rocks on the rockier trails.  I would still recommend rock skis.  10 AM Update:  The new snow is quite heavy.  This will cover rocks better, but also means that the snow plowed by town plows will be very solid.  It may be difficult to get into the Kolapore parking lot until it is plowed (take a shovel if you want to try.)  The County Forest parking lot is cleared. As I post this at 8:30 AM, the temperature is -23.  Kolapore received about 4 cm of snow during the day yesterday and into the evening.   Both the Kolapore and County Forest parking lots are well plowed today.  Yesterday I skied around the east half of the County Forest.  Although I still recommend rock skis there, the skiing was pleasant.  The snow gauge was at 23 cm.  I would  recommend deferring the really rocky trails (like the Kolapore Church - Paradise Highway loop) until after we get some more snow, which is predicted for tomorrow.  The wisdom of this recommendation was confirmed by a skier who had been on these trails this morning.   Kolapore Trail Guide

Kolapore received about 10 cm of snow overnight.  Some of the less rocky trails (such as County Forest) may be OK for skiing, although I would still recommend rock skis.  The County Forest parking lot has been carefully plowed this morning.  Kolapore Trail Guide

Unfortunately, Kolapore has only received about 3 or 4 cm of snow since the rain and thaw on Monday.  This is in contrast to Scenic Caves, which has received 20+ cm of snow.  The thaw uncovered a lot of rocks, and we need more snow to cover them and offer safe and enjoyable skiing.  Kolapore Trail Guide
