Last evening Kolapore received about another 12 cm of snow.  The settled snow depth is now about 20 cm.  This is probably enough to permit OK skiing on the less rocky trails, like the County Forest.   Rock skis are still recommended.  The parking lot at the east end of the County Forest (at Grey Road 2) is well plowed.  I will provide an update after checking the main Kolapore parking lot.  Kolapore Trail Guide

Some local areas have received streamers off the bay, but not much has fallen at Kolapore since my report yesterday.  The unpacked snow base is 13 cm at the south end, which will compact to a few cm.  Several skiers went into the County forest yesterday, but I expect that their skis will have a lot of new scratches.   Pray for snow!  Kolapore Trail Guide

There is about 15 cm of snow on the ground, and it is snowing energetically, with more promised.  15 cm of snow is not enough for skiing with no base.  However, if we get a good dump of snow, it may be possible to do some skiing on rock skis.  I will provide updates.  Kolapore Trail Guide

With the warm temperatures, the snow that fell a few days ago has disappeared, and the base is melting fast.  There is still snow cover on parts of some trails, but it is slushy or icy.  With the expected warm weather over the next few days, the trails will be wet and softening quickly.  This is a time when trail use can do the maximum damage.  We ask you to stay off the trails until they have dried out.  Kolapore Trail Guide

Overnight Kolapore received about 5 cm of new snow (not the big dump experienced just to the east.)  I don't think this is enough to refresh the trails, because the base is hard, icy or non-existent.  Kolapore Trail Guide 

With the recent thaw, followed by the very cold conditions overnight and into today, the trails are hard and icy.  I would strongly recommend against Kolapore skiing today on any portion of the trail.   Kolapore Trail Guide

Temperatures went above freezing today (Tuesday).  It will be below freezing tonight, so the trails may be icy initially tomorrow, but then softening as it warms.  The temperature is warming substantially, so the snow is likely to be quite wet in the afternoon.  The forecast is the same for Thursday.  Kolapore Trail Guide

Saturday night and through Sunday Kolapore received about 10 cm of snow, and the skiing should be great today.  Many skiers were having problems with clumping on Sunday afternoon, but with the cold temperatures today, that shouldn't be a problem.  The County Forest and Kolapore parking lots are well plowed.  There are wet spots on the trail - Trail to the Summit just north of Mount Dhaulagiri has several problem locations.  I would recommend avoiding the cedar swamp on Quiet Pastures - it is likely to have very wet sections.  There are also wet spots on the west end of Southern Crossing.  Kolapore Trail Guide

Over the past 24 hours, Kolapore has received about another 10+ cm of snow.  Skiing conditions should be excellent this weekend, although this morning be prepared for trail breaking.  Based on reports from Friday, rock skis may still be desirable.  The County Forest parking lot is well plowed (10 AM update).  The Kolapore parking lot was plowed late Friday afternoon, and probably won't be plowed again until later today.  The challenge will be getting into the lot, because of the drift left by the County plow.  Kolapore Trail Guide

Yesterday and overnight Kolapore received about 15 cm of new snow.  I hope this will be enough to cover the problems (reverse tracks, footholes) in the icy base.   I'm optimistic that we should have some decent skiing for the Family Day weekend.  Parking at the Kolapore parking lot is likely to be a problem Friday morning and into the afternoon, particularly because of the wall of snow left by the road plow.  The County Forest parking lot is in excellent condition.  Kolapore Trail Guide
