Kolapore received 8 cm of powder overnight.  Ski conditions should be excellent, as long as you are prepared for the cold.   Tracks were firm and fast yesterday - today you will need to be prepared to break trail.  The entrance to the Kolapore parking lot has been shovelled - there isn't enough snow in the lot to be a problem.   Kolapore Trail Guide

I skied some of the "trails less travelled" this morning, and conditions were very good.  There has been just a dusting of new snow the past few days.  The snow gauge has settled from 38 to 33 cm (15" to 13").  Much of the south side of the County Forest has enough snow that the skiing is OK after the end of logging, but between 4 and 5 many skiers might prefer the informal lower, flatter route.  Kolapore Trail Guide

Although there were lots of skiers out yesterday, skiing conditions should still be good today.  There is 15"/38 cm of snow at the snow gauge.  It should be possible to switch from rock skis to good skis.  The Kolapore parking lot was plowed yesterday by our dedicated volunteer.  The Metcalfe Rock parking lot has not been cleared, but it should be possible for SUVs to get in.

As I post this at 8 AM, Kolapore has received 11 cm of powder overnight, and it is snowing.  There may be some challenges with parking today.  The roads at the east end of the County Forest have been plowed and offer decent roadside parking.  I will update later in the day.

Kolapore received about 2 cm of snow overnight.  Ski conditions are good to excellent. Cold conditions have frozen the wet areas, and most rocks have decent snow cover.  I still think that rock skis are advisable if you have them.  The County Forest trails are open again for cross country skiing.  Most of the closure signs and barriers have been taken down.  The trails on the north side of the Forest are in relatively good condition.  Some of the trails on the south side are very rutted and rough because of the logging equipment.   Some snow has accumulated in the Kolapore parking lot since it was plowed this week, but it is usable.  The Metcalfe Rock parking lot has not been plowed.  Kolapore Trail Guide

The County Forest trails are open again for cross country skiing.  The closure signs and barriers should be removed over the next few days.  The trails on the north side of the Forest are in relatively good condition.  Some of the trails on the south side are very rutted and rough because of the logging equipment.  Overall, skiing conditions were very good today.  The official snow gauge is at 30 cm.  I skied Southern Crossing, Quiet Pastures and the south end of Trail to the Summit, and was very pleased at how well the trails have frozen.  There are some advantages to frigid conditions!  Kolapore Trail Guide

Kolapore received 4+ cm of snow several days ago, and this significantly improved conditions.  Snow cover is still thin, particularly on rocky trails.  I did a short ski at the south end of Trail to the Summit today, and was pleased to find that the wet areas are generally frozen.  This suggests our wetter trails are (or soon will be) skiable. The Kolapore parking lot was plowed several days ago by a volunteer (we are still trying to find a contractor).  The Metcalfe Rock parking lot has not been plowed, but can be used by vehicles with decent clearance.  The County Forest trails are still closed because of logging.  Kolapore Trail Guide

Kolapore received about 4 cm of snow overnight and into this morning.  This will help to improve the fast/icy tracks that I reported yesterday.  Snow cover will still be thin, particularly on rocky trails.  I would recommend that novice or cautious skier not use the trails.

There is about 20 cm of snow in the bush.  When it is skied on, the snow cover would be less than half this, with lots of rocks showing through.  The tracks are fast because there was light freezing drizzle on Wednesday.  Given the speed and rocks, it is not a time for novice or cautious skiers to visit Kolapore.  The Kolapore parking lot has been plowed by a volunteer (we are still trying to find a contractor).  The Metcalfe Rock parking lot has not been plowed, but can be used by vehicles with decent clearance.  The County Forest trails are still closed because of logging.  Kolapore Trail Guide

I did a 10 km loop today in the southeast quadrant, and can confirm that it is still rock skiing, and probably only for Kolapore veterans.  I guarantee that even in less used areas, you will hit lots of rocks.  Kolapore did not receive the dump of snow that fell at Collingwood.  Logging is continuing in the County Forest, so the trails there are closed.  Kolapore Trail Guide
