There was a thaw midweek and we lost much of the snow that fell on Monday.  A few cm fell overnight, so there is about 10 cm of snow in the bush.  Given the warm conditions predicted for mid-week, there are no short term prospects for skiing.  Kolapore Trail Guide

Yesterday and overnight Kolapore received over 20 cm of snow.  That fell on bare, unfrozen ground, so I would not recommend trying skiing.  Most of the snow will likely melt over the next few days.  The County Forest is still closed due to logging, but we are moderately optimistic that the logging will be completed by mid-December  Kolapore Trail Guide

As noted in the News section, starting mid-September most trails in the County Forest have been closed to public use.  This precludes connections to the north (John's Portage or Kingsway) or to the west (Southern Crossing).   We will post updates.

I posted a week ago, and not a lot has changed since then.  Although there is still snow in the bush (disappearing in open areas), skiing conditions continue to be poor.  On some recent days the snow was pure ice.  Other days the snow warms up and softens, but the tracks are very poor.  On a number of recent days the off track skiing has been better than the on track skiing.  I've skied at Scenic Caves several times over the past week, and I'm sure the skiing there was a lot more enjoyable than at Kolapore.  Kolapore Trail Guide

Two keen Kolapore skiers skied this morning, and reported that conditions were poor.  The old tracks are now higher than the adjacent snow.  Snow in general was slushy.  There is still lots of snow, so please don't walk on the trails, in the hope that we will be able to do some more skiing.   Kolapore Trail Guide

This morning may have been the end of winter skiing at Kolapore for this season.  There is still a substantial base of snow - about 50 cm - so there will still be opportunities for spring skiing.  The challenge will be to find the sweet spot between icy and sloppy.  As someone who doesn't care for spring skiing, I'm already looking forward to next winter, and hoping that it will be as good as this winter has been.  Kolapore Trail Guide

There's probably enough new snow to provide some pleasant skiing.  Get out and enjoy what will probably be the last weekend of winter skiing.  There's enough snow for spring skiing when it warms up this coming week.  Kolapore Trail Guide

The latest dusting of snow has really helped keep the trails skiable except for all the parts where people are ignoring the signs and walking them. Northwest Passage to 6th sideroad is in pretty rough shape - it seems a as though a bus load of people have walked the ski only sections.

There was also and woman and her 3 dogs who walked the entire Paradise Highway through Kolapore Church. She said she was a local and a member and knew she shouldn’t be there but thought ski season was over despite walking over our fresh tracks.

All you hikers, we are not done yet. Please stay off the trails.

Overnight Kolapore received about 3 cm of new snow.  This is on top of a hard packed and rutted base.  Conditions may be marginally acceptable on flatter trails.  I would stay away from serious hills.  Kolapore Trail Guide

Unfortunately, Kolapore only received a light dusting of snow yesterday. This is on top of an icy base.  Skiing is not recommended until we get more new snow or warmer temperatures to soften the base.  Kolapore Trail Guide
