As part of the 50th Anniversary celebration of the opening of the Kolapore Wilderness Trails, we are hosting a series of Heritage Hikes. The first of the Heritage Hikes will be a Birding Hike on Sunday, May 14.
The hike will be led by David Turner, founder of Boots, Birds and Breakfast and the Beaver Valley Birding Club. Since moving to the Beaver Valley ten years ago, David has identified more than 215 different bird species. Lets see how many we can hear and spot on our Kolapore hike!
Date: Sunday, May 14
Time: 8:00am
Location: Kolapore Uplands Parking Lot, 495445 Grey Rd. 2, Ravenna
Duration: 3 hours
Route: Kolapore Church loop via Paradise Highway
Participants are reminded to bring the following:
- sun block
- bug spray
- water
- snack
- binoculars
- rain gear or umbrella if required
This is a rain or shine event - the birds will be there!
Please register in advance using this form.
If you have any questions, please email our Heritage Hikes Coordinator, Nancy Harvey, at nancyharvey@sympatico.ca.
We can accept up to 25 hikers. You will be asked to sign a waiver at the parking lot when we meet on Sunday morning. Please arrive 10-15 minutes early so we'll be ready to start hiking at 8:00 a.m.
The Heritage Hike Series is free to all participants although a donation to support the trails would be welcome, either in the donation box at the parking lot or via e-transfer to info@kolaporetrails.org.
See you on the 14th when we can learn to identify some of the many birds who inhabit our beautiful Kolapore wilderness.
Upcoming Heritage Hikes include a June Forestry Hike, July Kolapore History Hike, August Blue Moon Bonfire Hike and September Geology Hike. More details to follow in upcoming KWTA Newsletters and on the KWTA website.
