Kolapore received 10+ cm of snow overnight.  We have the most snow that we've had at any point this winter - the snow gauge is at 50 cm (20").  Conditions over the next few days should be very good as long as you are prepared to "break trail" if you go on a less-used trail.

As I have noted in previous posts, the Kolapore Wilderness Trails Association is now responsible for managing and paying for the plowing of the Kolapore parking lot.  If you want this service to continue (along with trail maintenance and the provision of a toilet), please support the Association by joining or donating.  You  can join or donate online - click on the "join us" or "donate" tab.

Skiing was good today.  The fresh snow we received yesterday freshened up all the hills.  The snow gauge is at 41 cm (16").  Last weekend I skied our wettest trail (Quiet Pastures) and was pleased by how well it has frozen - it's very skiable.  Although I haven't skied it, I hear that parts of Northwest Passage may be beaten down by snowshoers.

As I have noted in previous posts, the Kolapore Wilderness Trails Association is now responsible for managing and paying for the plowing of the Kolapore parking lot.  If you want this service to continue (along with the provision of a toilet and trail maintenance), please support the Association.

Kolapore has received about 10 cm of snow over the past 24 hours, and it is still snowing as I write this at 8 AM.  This should help to freshen up the trails.  I will expand this post after skiing on the trails.

Kolapore received 5+ cm of powder snow last night.  I don't think we lost any base yesterday - temperatures stayed below 0.  Conditions are likely to still be fast (after the first few skiers) because of the firm tracks.  Some hills will still require more than normal caution.

As I have noted in previous posts, the Kolapore Wilderness Trails Association is now responsible for managing and paying for the plowing of the Kolapore parking lot.  If you want this service to continue (along with the provision of a toilet and trail maintenance), please support the Association.

I skied in the County Forest and vicinity yesterday afternoon, and the tracks are very fast.  The trails have the firm tracks from Sunday, plus some compacted powder.  The flatter trails are OK, but I would be reluctant to ski on steeper hills - it could be too fast and rutted.  We still have a decent snow base (33 cm at the gauge), but we really need more fresh snow.

Kolapore has received a few cm of snow overnight and today.  I don't think this is enough to cover the icy and/or rutted tracks.  I would recommend waiting for some more snow.  If you are desperate to get out, the off trail skiing may be OK.

Unfortunately the temperatures at Kolapore went above freezing last night.  We didn't lose much snow, although the snow has compacted.  At the moment the snow is still wet and creates spring skiing conditions, but as the temperature drops the trails will become icy.  Once that happens, I would strongly recommend staying off the trails until we get a decent amount of new snow.

Kolapore received about 10 cm of snow early this week, plus another 5 cm+ Friday morning.  The snow gauge is at 36 cm (14").  Over the past two days I've skied Trail to the Summit (one of the wetter and rockier trails) and Southern Crossing for the first time this season, and conditions were quite good.  There are a few wet spots, but it is easy to bypass them.

If you are coming in at the Kolapore entrance there have been inconsiderate walkers and snowshoers on the trail, so ski conditions on some trail segments will be mediocre until we get fresh snow.  (The snow this morning may have helped.)

As I've noted before, the Kolapore Wilderness Trails Association is arranging and paying for snow plowing now at the Kolapore parking lot.  If you want snowplowing to continue, please join the Association or make a donation.  Roadside parking at entrance W (west end of County Forest) is limited.  If you want to access the south end, there is better parking at entrance E, just off Grey Road 2.

On Friday Kolapore received about 15 cm of snow.  The snow gauge was at 40 cm.  (For those who have looked at earlier postings I know this doesn't add up - the snow is settling.)  Skiing should be excellent this weekend, although there will be a lot of trail breaking on Saturday. Bring your camera - the snow is hanging on the trees.

I'm pleased to report that the Kolapore parking lot is in good shape on Saturday morning - it was plowed late enough yesterday, and there isn't much of a hump from the County plow.  The Kolapore Wilderness Trails Association is arranging and paying for plowing now.  If you want snowplowing to continue, please join the Association or make a donation.  FYI, a skier told us today that there is very limited roadside parking at the County Forest Entrance W.  There is lots of roadside parking at the County Forest Entrance E, just off Grey Road 2.

Kolapore has received about 15 cm of new snow in the past 24 hours.  The snow gauge is at 37 cm (14").  It is hard work breaking trail today.

I expect that the Kolapore parking lot will be plowed by some time this afternoon.  As noted in my previous post, Grey County is no longer plowing the parking lot, so plowing is being arranged and paid for by the Kolapore Wilderness Trails Association.  Please support the Association if you want plowing and other trail maintenance to continue.
