Over the past 24 hours, Kolapore received somewhere between 15 to 20 cm of fresh powder.  Skiing should be great if you don't mind doing some trail breaking.  It's peak winter!  Kolapore Trail Guide

The warmer temperatures and sun yesterday, followed by cooler temperatures, resulted in glazed tracks.  Overnight and this morning Kolapore received 5+ cm of new snow, and as I post this update at 2 PM, it is still snowing.  I had a pleasant ski in the County Forest and vicinity this morning.  Conditions aren't perfect - you can still feel the underlying crust.  Bigger pole baskets are strongly recommended, because small baskets can break through the crust.  However, as the snow falls conditions are rapidly improving.  Kolapore Trail Guide

Overnight Kolapore received about 3 cm of new snow.  Yesterday morning I was pleasantly surprised by conditions - although it was close to 0, with appropriate ski prep I didn't have problems with clumping/icing.  I was also surprised that the ice pellets/snow earlier in the week had mostly filled in the old tracks, so there weren't serious ruts to contend with. Conditions should be as good or better today, although I would be careful on steep hills - there isn't a lot of new snow on top of the crust.  The snow gauge is at 55 cm, so we lost relatively little snow in the thaw.  Kolapore Trail Guide

Overnight Kolapore received about 4 cm of wet snow, and it is snowing lightly as I post at 9:45.  The temperature is 0, and it is supposed to hover around there today.  Skiing is possible, but you need to carefully prep your skis (no matter what type) so they don't stick/clump.  If you can defer your skiing, Sunday is likely to be better with cooler temperatures.  Kolapore Trail Guide

The precipitation yesterday came as ice pellets and freezing drizzle (about 10 cm?)  It has frozen into a solid ice surface.  Trying to ski at Kolapore in the current conditions would be a stupid choice.  If it warms up later today it might become barely skiable.  We really need a decent amount of new snow.  Kolapore Trail Guide

This morning (Mon Feb 16) the trails were firm and fast.  The temperature at mid-day is above freezing with sun, so it will quickly become soft.  There is rain in the forecast for this evening, and temperatures will be above freezing tomorrow, so the trails will be slushy.  Wednesday weather looks challenging (freezing rain changing to snow).  Thursday we may return to decent winter conditions.  Kolapore Trail Guide

We are setting up for a fine weekend with temperatures just below zero and a couple of cm of fresh snow overnight. Please note that the Kolapore Loppet will be taking place on Saturday from 7am to 5:30pm. The South Parking Lot will be filled with skiers and volunteers. If you are not part of the Loppet, please consider starting from another access point. Also there will be more than the usual number of skiers on the trails attempting personal best distances of 15, 26 and 51km. Please allow them to pass and cheer them on.

Skied yesterday in County Forest and today from East Parking lot to North Parking Lot- trails are in great shape - Wild Mouse was sooo fun - nice temperatures and a little new snow on the trails make it excellent. using a little glide enhancer made the ski quicker. Snowing on the trails when we left at 4pm today -

I did an enjoyable ski later Saturday afternoon - the wind wasn't bad in the forest, and the sun was out.  The snow was quite slow, which is inevitable when you are skiing at -17.   The snow gauge is still sitting at 60 cm, which is a great depth for Kolapore skiing.  Recent winds have brought down some branches - please help with the pickup.  Get out and enjoy the skiing tomorrow.  Kolapore Trail Guide

I posted yesterday that the trails were getting fast.  The 5+ cm of snow that arrived today (Tuesday) has nicely softened the trails.  Skiing was excellent this afternoon, and should be good for the next while.  Kolapore Trail Guide
