Kolapore has received a bit over 8 cm (3") of new snow overnight.  I'm sure the Kolapore snow gauge will be over 50 cm - Kolapore has lots of snow!  The Kolapore parking lot has some new snow but is usable.

We had another snowfall (about 8 cm) Friday night.  The snow gauge is up to 49 cm (19")  This is enough to provide excellent skiing conditions.  Later this afternoon when the wind eased the skiing was very pleasant. Get out and enjoy the skiing before the predicted mid-week thaw.

Snow every day this week and the trails are the best they have been in some time. We had another 10 cm of snow Thursday night.  Cold conditions so...1. Dress in layers but be careful not to overheat. Overheating is as dangerous as not dressing warmly enough as sweat will chill you through. 2. Protect exposed skin. 3. Ski more protected trails. I'd suggest Southern Crossing, Kingsway, John's Portage and Paradise Highway. 4. Take short breaks. Bring warm drinks and snacks. See you on the trails!   

Kolapore has received about 15 cm of new snow over the past 24 hours.  The snow gauge is at 40 cm (16") Conditions should be excellent, but very cold.

Long ski yesterday and most all of the trails seem to be well-tracked and in excellent condition. Thank you to the trail breakers. Caution on Marc's Folly between 31 and 29 with a downed tree at the bottom of the hill. Negotiable but unexpected. Lots of layers for your last ski of 2017. 

Not much need to say more. Very occasional growler rock but otherwise trails are well-set and the forest is stunning.

The Kolapore snow gauge was at just over 30 cm yesterday afternoon, and Kolapore received about 2 cm of snow overnight.  Because most of the snow is light powder, and there isn't much base, if you ski anywhere other than the County Forest you should be prepared to get scratches or gouges on your skis.  You need to be careful on hills because you may encounter hidden rocks.  That being said, I had a great ski yesterday.

Kolapore has received a great Christmas present - 15 cm (6") of new snow overnight and this morning.  This adds to the existing 20 cm (unconsolidated) base.  With the forecast for more flurries or squalls today, the skiing could be quite good tomorrow.  If you are out first, be prepared to break trail.  Don't count on the Kolapore parking lot being plowed today or tomorrow morning - I'm hoping it will be plowed by the afternoon.  (3 PM update: the snow gauge is at 30 cm (12") and rising fast.  Rock skis are still strongly recommended.)

Thursday night Kolapore received about 5 cm of snow, on top of the 15 cm we already had.  This is still a thin base for most trails.  As noted in my preceding post, conditions will be generally OK in the County Forest.  On most other trails, the rocks will still eat your skis.

I skied County Forest this afternoon, and conditions were pleasant - decent tracks, but a few rocks and wet spots are showing as a result of the thaw.  The snow gauge is at 15 cm (6") - this means that you are skiing on about 5 cm of snow in the tracks.  This is OK on old lanes, but is not enough snow for most of the Kolapore Trails.  I think we need to get at least 10 - 15 cm of snow before skiing rockier trails, and even then rock skis will be strongly recommended.
