Yesterday morning Kolapore received about 6 cm of snow in the morning, followed by rain in the afternoon.  Overnight there was 10 cm of new snow.  I just shoveled, and there is about 15 cm/6" of new snow in total.  Portions of the trail system where we had retained a snow base (areas in the forest where there aren't too many wet areas) should be skiable today.  Prepare to break trail - the snow will be reasonably heavy.  Kolapore Trail Guide

As I write this at 11 AM, Kolapore has received about 6 cm of wet snow (the temperature is just below 0), and it's snowing hard.  If we get the predicted snow, skiing may be OK in selective areas tomorrow, where there is still a decent base.  I think parts of County Forest should be OK.  Kolapore Trail Guide

I skied around County Forest yesterday afternoon, and would rate conditions as fair to poor.  Although there is still about 20 cm of snow in the bush, rocks and wet areas are starting to reappear on the trail.  Snow is disappearing in the fields.  The snow in the forest varied from icy to soft, depending on the orientation.  We are starting to get "reverse tracks", where the old tracks are higher than the adjacent unpacked snow.  If you are determined to ski at Kolapore, if it's after a cold night be sure to wait until the snow has softened.  Kolapore Trail Guide

Kolapore received about 3 cm of snow today (I'm posting this at 4:30 PM)  There is just enough new snow to make skiing OK, as long as you accept the fact that the underlying crust is going to be rutted in places.  There is still a substantial snow base in the forest.    I don't recommend off trail skiing - the crust is breakable.  As noted in a previous posting, the toilet at the Kolapore parking lot has been removed until spring arrives.  Kolapore Trail Guide

Went in on the easy trails from the southeast access at noon today. Snow temperature exactly zero, I was on red wet/corn snow klister. Maybe half a centimetre of light, flurry snow on the surface of the trail. Could have probably been on hard wax instead, though the base was a touch icy and hard packed under the dusting of snow, so the tradeoff was less glide for better grip climbing little hills. Felt like late season, but still ski-able and no dodging patches of dirt or protruding rocks yet.

There is still a base of snow in the bush at Kolapore, but conditions are deteriorating.  Yesterday I did a short ski, and there was enough fresh snow on top of the crust to making skiing OK but not great.  Off track skiing was actually better.  As we get into thaw/freeze cycles, the best skiing will be when the track has softened slightly.  Because of the reduced use of the trails, the Kolapore Trails Association has removed the toilet at the Kolapore parking lot - it will return when the trails start to dry out.  (This is a cost saving measure, because toilet rental is a major cost.)   Kolapore Trail Guide

14 inches measure at the snow gauge including 2 of fresh powder over crusty base this morning. A little slow going and rocks poking through in some sections but still quite skiable. Liquid glide on the no-wax rock skis. Don't plan to set your record for the Church Loop or ski Red Death for the first time this season but it's all about the base and we still have one.

The trails are becoming hard packed.  The strong sun yesterday glazed the trails in open or south facing areas.  Off track skiing is not recommended because of the breakable crust.   I think conditions today will be "fair to poor".  Kolapore Trail Guide

Kolapore received 2 - 3 cm of snow overnight and this morning.  After a ski around County Forest, I would rate conditions as "fair+" - not quite "good".   Skiing is quite pleasant in areas where there was a good track before the thaw.  Hills could be a bit tricky.  I would strongly recommend against off-track skiing - you will break through the crust with almost every step.  The snow gauge is at 40 cm, so there's still a good base.  There are a lot of twigs and branches down because of recent high winds - please help with the pickup.  Kolapore Trail Guide

Sadly, today marked the end of a stretch of great skiing conditions.  Kolapore received rain and temperatures have now dropped.  The trails are likely to be crusty/icy until we get some fresh snow, or warmer temperatures soften the snow.  I would recommend staying off the trails.  Kolapore Trail Guide
